The First 1000 miles(or close to it)

Let’s talk about fuel.  When reading this, keep in mind that we are just under 16000 GVW.  That’s the total weight for the truck and trailer.  I filled up the truck on departure day just before hooking up.  The first stretch was from Kalispell MT to Newport WA.  It was roughly 215 miles.  It was a winding hilly drive in horrible rain.  The trans tune for towing wasn’t quite right, so it kept wanting to go into overdrive at lower speeds going up hills etc.  Needless to say it affected driving.  That first leg we averaged 11.7 MPG.  The second leg was a long one.  It was from Newport WA to Fall City WA.  This was mostly interstate, but we had 2 big climbs, one out of the Columbia River Gorge, and the second over Snoqualmie Pass.  That drive was 347 miles, and we averaged 10.6 MPG.  The last leg, was from Fall City WA to Silver Creek WA.  The tow distance was only 118 miles, and we drove out and around Mt Rainier and to other various points of interest in the area.  The total miles on this tank are 406, and we averaged 13.4 MPG.  Overall I don’t think any of these numbers are too bad considering the amount of weight and hills we have climbed.

About Fummins Family

In 2016 a family hit the road with 5 of their children. They were going to travel the country in a Ford Excursion that had a cummins engine. A ford with a cummins, hence the name, Fummins. Ford+Cummins=Fummins. It was going to be a fummins family roadtrip. Within 3 months they decided that the travel trailer they were pulling wasn't working well for their family. They needed more space so they upgraded to a fifth wheel. It's not easy to pull a fifth wheel with an excursion, so they had to bid farewell to the fummins. They talked about changing the name of theirs travels, but decided to hold onto it for a while longer. They already had a website, blog, youtube, instagram and facebook. After 2 more years they decided to make the switch to Roadschool. Here they will share some of the old posts and video. It may be old information, but it's still just as good...at least most of it!
