Washington Recap 2016

We spent 20 days in Washington State, here is a recap of our stay.  We would liked to have seen much more, but we did see quite a bit in our short time there.

The first stop was Newport WA.  It’s a small town along the WA & ID border.  This stop we didn’t see too much, as we literally threw everything in the trailer and took off to get there.  So our time there was spent re-grouping and re-organizing.  We stayed at Old American Kampgroud there.  It was ok, we were on the edge of a cliff overlooking a river.  It was a bit run down, but suited our needs well.

The next stop was in Falls City WA.  This is a small town outside of Seattle.  This stop had more of a purpose.  Harmony’s Mom and son both live in the area.  So we spent time with family, and Doug went to the Seahawks season opening game!  We mainly hung out around the campground.  It was called Tall Chief.  This was a big park, but lots of trees made it fairly cozy.

Silver Creek WA was our next spot.  This small town is about 100 miles south of Seattle, and the campground Paradise had views of Mt Rainier, Mt Adams and Mt St Helens.  The campground itself had 3 pools, and a lot of berries for the boys to pick.  Mayfield Lake close to camp, and went to a Salmon Hatchery and Dam.  We spent a full week there, so we tried to get out and see what we could.

The ocean was calling; we went out to ocean shores next.  It was about a 2 hour drive due west from where we were.  We stayed at a campground called Oceana.  It wasn’t the best campground by far, but we were a short walk from the beach.  We drove up to Olympic National Forest where the boys got their Jr Ranger Badges, and we spent some time on the beach.  Brandon came up and visited, so that was nice for the boys to get some beach time with their older brother.

The last stop in WA was Long Beach.  This is about 100 miles down the coast, very close to where the Columbia River separates WA and OR.  We spent more time on the beach, and we also visited the Lewis & Clark State Park.  This area is where the expedition finally found the pacific river.  The boys again did Jr Ranger books, and we learned more about the famous trip.

We had a great time in WA, and could definitely spend much more time there seeing all there is to see in the beautiful state.   But we are moving onward and southward.   Check out some of our pictures in the Gallery..

About Fummins Family

In 2016 a family hit the road with 5 of their children. They were going to travel the country in a Ford Excursion that had a cummins engine. A ford with a cummins, hence the name, Fummins. Ford+Cummins=Fummins. It was going to be a fummins family roadtrip. Within 3 months they decided that the travel trailer they were pulling wasn't working well for their family. They needed more space so they upgraded to a fifth wheel. It's not easy to pull a fifth wheel with an excursion, so they had to bid farewell to the fummins. They talked about changing the name of theirs travels, but decided to hold onto it for a while longer. They already had a website, blog, youtube, instagram and facebook. After 2 more years they decided to make the switch to Roadschool. Here they will share some of the old posts and video. It may be old information, but it's still just as good...at least most of it!
