New Food Friday

Years ago with our older kids and the kids at Harmony’s old childcare, Kids by Nature, we had weird food Wednesday. Each Wednesday when the afterschool kids would show up, we’d try something new. None of our younger kids were around for that so we decided to recreate it with New Food Friday.

Our boys have tried so many things from jellyfish heads, to Oreos. Many of the foods we try are delicious, but others, like pickled pigs feet are an acquired taste.

Some of the foods we tried we hope to never see, or smell again. Others have become a regular part of our menu.

We want our children to learn about so many things, they learn math, reading, history….why not nutrition and culinary? It may not come in handy in their adult life. But, who knows, they just may be on a crazy game show and win one million dollars for eating something weird and it won’t even be a challenge for them. Chances are that won’t happen. But I want them to have the chance to be exposed to as many things as possible.

While I don’t expect everyone to make YouTube videos tasting different foods like we do. I do challenge each of you to try something new. Give it a chance. Share with your family and friends. The let us know how it went. Leave us a comment with what you tried. If it’s something we have tried we’d like to know. If we haven’t tried it yet, we’ll try it too.

About Fummins Family

In 2016 a family hit the road with 5 of their children. They were going to travel the country in a Ford Excursion that had a cummins engine. A ford with a cummins, hence the name, Fummins. Ford+Cummins=Fummins. It was going to be a fummins family roadtrip. Within 3 months they decided that the travel trailer they were pulling wasn't working well for their family. They needed more space so they upgraded to a fifth wheel. It's not easy to pull a fifth wheel with an excursion, so they had to bid farewell to the fummins. They talked about changing the name of theirs travels, but decided to hold onto it for a while longer. They already had a website, blog, youtube, instagram and facebook. After 2 more years they decided to make the switch to Roadschool. Here they will share some of the old posts and video. It may be old information, but it's still just as good...at least most of it!
